After hours of torrential down falls this morning, the sun finally came out to shine right before lunch. Cameron and Leah had spent enough time inside watching TV and I knew I needed to get them out of the house for a little while. I decided we should take a quick little walk before lunch and nap. I only thought about getting them out of the house and off the walls and didn't expect it to be one of the best times ever. We all grabbed our crocs and headed out the door .
She asked if she could splash in them and I let her and then told Cameron to splash too! They were so excited! Leah kept singing...If you see a puddle....Yell PUDDLE!! ...PUDDLE! PUDDLE! PUDDLE!!!
They splashed and stomped the whole way, anytime they saw a puddle. However, all puddles are not created equal. Some were just too muddy for Leah to jump in.

We stopped to chat with a very long worm crossing the road. We watched him wiggle around through a puddle and talked about where he was going. Then as we walked away Leah said, "By wormie! Have a nice day!" I added, "Enjoy your lunch!" and she responded to the worm, "Have a good naptime, too!" About 20 feet later we saw a little baby worm and talked to that one for awhile. Cameron bent down like Leah and I did and just kept "oohing" at it and pointing. As we walked away Leah told the little worm, "Have fun with your big friend." Then we saw a bird in the street and discussed whether or not the bird was looking for worms to eat. Leah thought it was not. (She has a positive outlook, I guess.)
Leah and I talked and talked about the birds and the houses. We heard a bird singing really loud in a tree above us and I asked Leah what song she thought it was singing. She said it was singing "The A,B,C song to her." Then we heard another bird and she said it was singing with the first bird.
Cameron barked at all the dogs that were barking at us. He'd stand at the edge of someone's grass and the street. He'd face the dog in it's backyard and Cameron would bark back at the dog.
It was a great 'spur of the moment' activity that I am so glad we did. Cameron and Leah had a blast and so did I. I really enjoyed just being with them and watching them discover everything they did.
I thank God for the BEAUTIFUL rain fall and the cooler weather that followed. Of course I am also thankful for the puddles, worms and birds we encountered on our route.
"You can't tell how deep a puddle is until you stomp in it."
