Cold Stone Creamery

October 25, 2010
Abby took a field trip to Cold Stone Creamery?  I know, who would have thought that an ice cream shoppe would be an appropriate field trip destination and educational?  It really was!  (Not to mention one of the BEST FIELD TRIPS EVER!!)

Abby's Gifted class has been studying "secret formulas" over the last several weeks.  They created their own soda and then they learned how to make their own ice cream.  So of course the obvious place to go would be to an ice cream shoppe.  (It doesn't help that 2 of the teacher's closest friends are in charge of the field trip destination.)

Trying the class' creation!
Cold Stone Creamery has their own 'factory' in the back where they make all of their own ice cream from scratch.  YUMMY!  The kids got to help make a batch of strawberry ice cream.  The coordinator was so interactive with the kids and very entertaining.  She really did make it educational and I feel like they got a lot out off it.  Plus, she made everything sound "Top Secret", so all the kids felt like they were really involved in something important!

Waiting patiently...

Their next stop was to the front counter.  Abby could not believe she got to be 'behind' the counter where the workers normally are.  How cool was she?!  Each student got to pick a flavor of ice cream and 2 mix ins. They are NOT toppings because they go IN the ice cream, they don't sit on top.  That's boring!  Then they climbed up to the counter and actually got to mix up their own ice cream creation!  Abby picked mint flavored ice cream, chocolate chips and gummy bears.  Mmmmmmmmmm

Yum, Yum, Yum

Afterwards we headed to the park for lunch.  As expected, not many of the kids ate their lunch since they had their dessert first.  It was a beautiful day at the park.

Enjoying the park with Mom
