We haven't had school since January 27th. In the month of January, we only had school for 13 days. They had 5 snow days in January, MLK day and a Teacher Professional Day. So far in February, we've had 4 snow days. This 2010-2011 school year the Fox C-6 school district has had 13 snow days compared to the normal 4-5. It's official, we will be in school until July. Well, not really. At this point only until May 28th, but that seems late since we were suppose to get out on May 13th.
In case you were wondering...Yes, Cabin Fever had set in. Last week, we got what everyone was calling St.Louis' Snowmageddon or The Snowpocalypse. They said we were gonna get 10-12 inches of snow. Unfortunately we didn't. It would have been so great to see all that snow and share it with the kids. On Feb 1st and 2nd,we ended up getting 3-4 inches of sleet and about another 2 inches of snow. Then on February 5th we got another 3 inches of snow.
The kids and I had been stranded in the house from Sunday morning through Thursday. Luckily the roads were cleared up by Friday that we were able to get out of the house for a little while on Friday morning before the next round of snow came that evening. Come Saturday, we were a little worried that the Father/Daughter dance would be snowed out too (fortunately that did not happen).
Despite all of this, the cabin fever has not been as bad as I anticipated it to be when they were first predicting all the winter weather. I have heard some of my mommy-friends talking about the nightmares they've been through over the past several days. I guess I have been very blessed. Sure my own kids have had their share of squabbles and I have had day after day of migraines, but things really weren't too bad. I did have the help of Greg being home 2 days last week due to them closing down Pfizer for those days.
Abby, Leah and Cameron have been so imaginative these past couple weeks. They have been pretending to go camping, building zoos, playing house and school. I really am amazed at how well overall they got along. Abby has read numerous books, we've watched tons of movies, Cameron has been enjoying his building blocks and Leah has been adamantly taking care of her baby, Molly.
School is on for tomorrow but as I sit here and type this, I am watching the forecast for the rest of the week and it looks like more snow is on the way for Tuesday and Wednesday. We all know what that means for the Fox school district....Snow Day 14 and maybe 15?
