So this is my 3rd time at potty training a child. (Well, actually not. I assisted in potty training many children when I taught at the day care. However, this is the 3rd child of my own that I am training.) Cameron had seemed interested in going "pee pee on the potty" for awhile by watching his sisters all the time. We bought him a new potty chair a couple months ago but it sat in the bathroom for awhile with no success. Finally, I just decided, I wanted him trained. I knew he could comprehend it and I knew he was physically ready. He just needed a big push. ~No babying this baby of the family!
Over the past few weeks, whenever we are in the stores, I always walk him past the "Big Boy" underwear. He talks about getting Toy Story ones. (Duh! If you've met our son, there would be no question that these would be the pair he chooses.) Now he is on a mission to get that underwear.
This past Friday and Saturday, Cameron ran around the house pantsless. He rather enjoyed this and I am not sure if we should be concerned about that or not. (That will give me something to worry about later.) He did really well. I did the same for him that I did with Leah. I put a plastic mat on the floor in front of the TV with his potty chair on it. He watched TV, we did puzzles, read books and he played with toys all on that mat. He "went to the bathroom" about 25 times the first day. Every time he went, he got to put a Toy Story sticker on the Toy Story Potty chart I made. (The girls have fun counting how many stickers he is up to.)
After doing so well and having only one accident on the floor (Phew, he made it on the mat at least!), he ran around the house in training underwear on Sunday. I thought we needed to step it up a little bit and challenge him. I didn't want to have to leave the house and jump back into diapers. He did AWESOME! He went Sunday and Monday with no accidents. Today (Tuesday) was the first time he had an accident in his underwear. I am so proud. Greg and I are rather surprised at how well he is taking to this since we were the ones to take the initiative and make this past weekend "THE WEEKEND".
I do have to gloat a little bit. Cameron got sick over the weekend. Despite a 103degree temperature all weekend, terrible cough and congestion and very little sleep, he continued to be a trooper in training. On Monday, I took him to the doctor. Since I didn't have the girls with me, I decided to be daring and go diaper free. We did it. No accidents while we were out of the house. I was so proud of him. Of course I did take him to the bathroom the second we walked into the doctor's office, right before we left and the minute we got home. But he remained dry!
So I guess we will be making a trip to Target tomorrow to get his Toy Story underwear. He will remain in diapers at night and during nap. He is not yet waking up dry. That will come and then we will truly be diaper free!
(PS. In case you are wondering, he tested positive for Strep on Monday. Poor boy.)
