House of Pain

This has been the week of injuries in the Imperial Scheidt's home.  It started out Tuesday evening.  Cameron and Leah were playing downstairs in the basement.  At one point they were heading back downstairs after coming up for something.  They were going down the steps sliding on their bottoms.  When they got to the last step, Cameron jumped up onto his feet onto the landing, thus injuring his foot.  He was screaming in pain.  He wouldn't walk.  He was also overly tired since he had missed his nap that day.  So we calmed him down and gave him some ibuprofen and put him to bed.  When he woke up Wednesday morning, he wouldn't walk on it at all and it was noticeably swollen.  I called the doctor and she sent us for x-rays.  After the x-rays we met with the doctor and she informed me that it wasn't broken and perhaps it was sprained.  She told me to bring him back in if he still wouldn't walk on it in 48 hours.  Surprisingly, he walked out of the office.  He was still favoring the foot until Saturday, but appears to be fine now.

Next, it was Leah's turn.  On Friday, she was outside swinging when she fell off the swing and landed on her back.  She seemed to be in a fair amount of pain.  So we gave her some ibuprofen and she laid on the couch the rest of the evening.  Saturday morning she woke up pretty stiff.  We didn't want to risk it so we decided to skip her soccer game.  At that point, we needed to go to Sam's.  When we were there, miraculously, Leah was able to run around the store.  So we packed up and headed to her game.  Every once and awhile, she slowed down and rubbed her back.  We could tell she was toughing it out but she made it.  At this point, she is mostly OK.  She is still stiff in the mornings and if she moves drastically one way or the other, she winces in pain, so she takes it easy.

Then, today, Abby comes home from school limping.  She said she was climbing on the monkey bars when her shoe fell off.  She then slipped with her foot only in a sock and she smacked the bottom of her foot on a bar.  Her foot was swollen when she got home so we put some ice on it.  Within a few hours she said it didn't hurt anymore.

I would say that this week we dodged 3 bullets.  All 3 could have been serious accidents and the kids were lucky they only got some bruises and sprains.  It was however, a very stressful week.  I think I am going to go and purchase some bubbles now for them to go around in.
