A family who soaps together

How did we get

The Scheidt Family made our own laundry detergent!
A family friend made her own and encouraged us to do the same and passed on her wonderful and super easy recipe.  We had no idea it would be fun, too!

Step One:  Grate the soap bar.  Everyone helped out.

Step 2:  Melt the soap bar and boil with water

Step 3:  We poured it into a 5 gallon bucket and filled the bucket with tap water to the half way mark.  We added some washing soda and borax and stirred, stirred, stirred.

Step 4:  We let it sit for 24 hours.

Step 5:  The next day, it looked like this......goopy and gloppy.  So I had to get into it and mush it all and stir it all together.  To me, this was the funnest part!

Step 6:  After it was all mixed together, we poured it into many containers half way. Then we had to fill the containers the rest of the way up with water and shook well.

Our final product!
9 & 3/4 gallons of homemade laundry detergent!
It cost us less to make than one jug we normally buy which also consists of many perfumes and chemicals that are needed for shipping and storing it on store shelves forever.  We don't have a lot of issues with perfume soaps but it does irritate Leah some and every little bit less, helps.
