Leah got the INFAMOUS letter today! She came home from school running to me with an envelope saying, "Open it! Open it! What does it say?" It was her acceptance letter into the "High Potential Group". She knew she was being tested for it and was eager to find out if she made it in or not.
The High Potential Group is a precursor to the gifted program (which Abby is in). They will not focus
on one particular subject but will do activities that are
cross-educational. What this means is they will do an activity that
would cover a few different subjects at a time. Therefore, they are not
just focusing on their strengths or weaknesses but working on advanced
projects in general.
Leah has been reading at a first grade level since she started Kindergarten. She is one of the few that is reading that well in her class. Leah also picks up math very fast. In fact she was doing math problems before she was even reading. Her teacher tells us that she is always the first to answer in class and she can rely on Leah to get it right. She has really flourished since starting school this year.
I believe they will start the classes sometime this month. She will stay at her school and the teachers will come to her. (For the gifted program, they are bussed to another elementary school in the district.)
We are so happy for Leah and so proud of her. We never wanted her to over-shadowed by her older sister and now we know she has proved that she can hold her own and succeed!
We of course went out for some ice cream tonight to celebrate.
