Sleepless in Imperial

Cameron woke up yesterday with a temperature of around 101.  It steadily climbed throughout the day and he got crabbier and crabbier.  His fever peaked at 103.5 and we could only get it down to 101 with Tylenol.  He had a really rough night last night.  We hadn't had one that bad since he was an infant.  Basically he slept for 2 hours, was up for 2 hours, slept for two hours...this continued all night.  When he was up, he was pretty hysterical and inconsolable.

I called the doctor this morning to see what else we could do to make him comfortable.  The nurse didn't like how high his fever was getting we made an appointment.  Turned out the poor little guy has strep throat.  This makes sense in that he hasn't been eating, has been drinking a lot more often, he's very cranky, lifeless, and worse at nights.

The doctor gave him antibiotics but he didn't get his first dose until 4pm tonight.  So far we are having trouble getting him to sleep tonight.  I guess there isn't enough of the meds in his system yet.  We expect to have a rough night again tonight, but hopefully by tomorrow night we can be sleeping again.  For now, we will go back to our shift sleeping like we did when he was only a few months old.
