Family Day

Friday, April 2, 2010

Abby was on Spring Break and I "strongly encouraged" Greg to take a vacation day.  This was forecasted to be one of the first BEAUTIFUL SPRING DAYS and I wanted to enjoy it with the whole family!

I had a jammed packed day planned.  I wanted to head downtown and check out the Soulard Farmer's Market and then take the kids to the new City Garden while we were downtown.  So we were off......

We told the girls that we had some fun things planned for the day and they immediately started trying to guess where we would be taking them.  We had to eventually tell them they were places they have never been and there would be no sense in them trying to guess so they should just go along and enjoy the day.  {Of course they kept trying to guess.  Six Flags came up numerous times.}

On our way downtown we stopped off at Gus's Pretzels...one of the girl's favorites!  We picked up some pretzels and pretzel dogs to have for a picnic lunch later that day.

Then we drove to the Farmer's Market.  The kids didn't have any idea where we were so we used this opportunity to explain to them all about Farmer Markets and Homegrown foods and different fruits and veggies we were not familiar with.  They were intrigued.

We walked down the lanes of the market and looked at all the fruits, vegetables and meats.  Some they knew, some they didn't.  They were interested in things like the ostrich and emu eggs and the different colors of all the foods.

After the Farmer's Market we headed to the City Garden.  This is a new park site located in the heart of downtown.  It covers several blocks between some of the largest buildings in the city.  It contains some of the most beautiful landscaping, fountains and sculptures.  When we arrived the kids got excited when we told them they could run around, climb on anything and even PLAY IN THE WATER!
