Sleepless nights

My poor little Cameron.  On Decmeber 15th I took him to the doctor because he had been running a fever for 3 days and was very sick.  We found out that day that he had flu B and he had several more days to deal with it until he recovered.  He was on breathing treatments four times a day for about 10-14days.  I don't really remember.  He was so much better and we were back to sleeping through the night again.

Sleeping through the night quickly ended again this past weekend.  He started getting sick again on Friday when he coughed all through his nap.  Then Friday night we were up all night with his coughing which leads to vomitting.  We started breathing treatments again on Saturday.  I was just thinking that maybe the cough really wasn't gone and just resurfaced.  He seemed fine otherwise.  Then last night Gregory noticed he had a fever.  I was shocked.  We had a really rough night again and he woke up with a fever still.

I was thinking that maybe the flu had relasped so I called the doctor to even see if that was possible.   They wanted to see him.  They were concerned because he didn't seem to have any relief from the treatments.  The doctor tested him for flu A and the test came back negative.  She diagnosed him with RSV.

Normally RSV is a really bad viral infection for infants but it can affect older children as well, especially ones whose immune system is already compromised (just recovered from the flu).  Unfortunately, there is no treatment for it and all we can do for him is continue giving him tylenol and continue his breathing treatments.

[I also found out that he has "cold-induced asthma"  which pretty much means anytime he is sick or has a cold he will need breathing treatments because his lungs need help breaking up all the mucus.  Uggh!  She said kids usually grow out of it around 7 and it doesn't mean that he has regular asthma.]

So we are in for another rough couple of days.  He is highly contagious so we will be staying close to home for awhile.  His temperature has been high but today his demeanor seems better so hopefully that means we are seeing the end of the tunnel.
