Broke my heart

Yesterday I got to school early to pick Abby up. I was standing inside watching her play outside on the playground. I watched as she walked always one step behind two other girls who were walking together holding hands. Abby tried desperately to catch up and join them but just couldn't succeed. When the girls would stop to look at something or talk to someone, Abby would reach for a hand to hold. The girls would only take off again and she'd fall behind once more. This made me so mad! However, that wasn't the worse of it. Finally the teacher yelled at one of the girls to be nice and be Abby's friend or they were going inside. They then took Abby's hand and began to walk away, but as soon as the teacher looked away they dropped Abby's hand and ran off. Abby just ran after them, none the wiser. This is when my heart broke. She just doesn't see how mean these girls are to her she just wants to be their friend so bad.

I feel like I am living my early school days all over again.

Does anyone have any advice on how I should handle this or overcome my own insecurities? I have spoke with the teachers before this and they know Abby idolizes these girls and they do what they can to redirect Abby.

Does this really start in preschool?
