Floating in Iowa July 12th

We were invited up to Van Meter, IA for a floating/tubing trip with Michael and his clan. This is something that is a little more out of our comfort zone. We haven't done much with the kids that was adventurous. We decided to go and try something new and introduce the kids to something new. Greg and I used to float all the time before we were married but we have never gone with children. Yikes! We didn't know what we were in for. We bought several different types of floating rafts and headed to Iowa.

The girls were so excited. We tied all of our rafts together (didn't want to loose any of the little ones). The weather was beautiful, but the water was freezing! The first half of the float the girls moved from raft to raft to raft. Boy, did Greg get a workout treading water to help everyone more around. Finally we nixed the climbing around and told the girls to stay where they were and just enjoy the float. They did better and Greg finally got to relax. Cameron started screaming as soon as we hit the water. Uncle Michael floated with him to start while we got the girls settled, but he just wouldn't settle down. So I took Cameron on my lap and within a few minutes he fell asleep. He slept on my lap for a good part of the float. It was so sweet. The girls really enjoyed it, but I think they were expecting a little more swim time.

Afterwards, we all headed to Michael's for a little friends and family time. Michael and Kris fed us a yummy meal. The kids spent almost 4 hours on the trampoline (on and off throughout the evening) while Greg and I enjoyed some grown-up talking time. That was nice. The next morning we got up and headed back to Imperial.

We had a great "short" trip and definitely enjoyed getting away with the kids. Hopefully next year we can make the trip again....next summer is already booking up.
