I believe that she had a good day. She did not have any problems with the drop off. She immediately went and hung her book bag and coat up. Then she said goodbye and went to the carpet area to build with blocks. After I saw that she was fine, I left. Then I got Cameron and myself back to the car and began to cry.
When we sent Abby to school she was academically ready for school. She knew so much that I knew she would flourish and it would be so good for her socially. I didn't really cry, although I remember missing her like crazy. Leah wanted to start school so bad, she could taste it. I think that is what made me sad. Like most kids, not being the first meant we didn't go and do as many activities together. She was ready to face the world and see what was out there for her, whether or not she was ready. (She is also ready academically. She is very curious about letters and thinks she can read already.)
As the clocked ticked away, I waited to go pick her up and see how her day was. I got there early and was able to peek in the window. What I saw was a quiet girl sitting at the table watching all the commotion going on around her. She didn't look scared, she was just observing. When school was out and saw me, she was excited. Her teacher told me she had a good day and she noticed that Leah was a little apprehensive around the rowdy boys, but that would probably change.
When we got into the car and I asked her what her favorite part of the day was, she responded, "I don't know." I asked if she painted (since I saw the paint supplies out when I dropped her off) and she responded, "I don't know." I asked several more questions and got the same response. When we picked up Abby from school and she asked Leah about her day, Leah started telling her all the things she did. Go figure! I am only the mom!
I am relieved that she had a good day and is ready to go back on Thursday. Greg has already prepared me for her to become clingy and not wanting to go to school once she gets into the swing of things but right now it is all new. Something to think about, I guess.
