We did not plan to do anything exciting on this day. We were talking to Abby about what New Year’s Eve was and what we celebrate. Once she heard that people stay up until midnight to “ring in the new year” she lobbied for this. She wanted to stay up until midnight so bad (and of course Leah wanted to also). We thought, “What the heck”, we had no plans for New Years Day so we could all sleep in and lounge around the house in our tired stupors.
New Year’s Eve day was filled with lots of errands and running around. Our last stop was to Walmart where we picked up some fun, not healthy snack foods to eat for dinner. When we got home the girls played Polly Pockets for several hours and we had dinner throughout the night.
Cameron crashed around 8:30pm and then we played some games with the girls. They got lots of new games for Christmas and this was a great opportunity for us to play them.
Around 10:30pm we decided we wanted some ice cream so we called our suppliers. (Our neighbor works for Edys’ and we get all our ice cream from him.) Stephanie and Drew came over and ate ice cream with us and we all hung out in our pjs until midnight. We played games, talked and the girls even conned Drew and Stephanie into playing Polly Pockets with them.
At midnight we all went outside with our musical instruments to make noise and watch the fireworks. Then we put the kids to bed. As she was heading to bed Abby said, "Staying up until midnight would be a lot more fun if it came right after 8:00." Greg and I stayed up until 3pm talking with Drew and Stephanie. Thankfully the kids didn’t get up until 10:30am the next day.
It was good times, good food, good friends and even good sleep! I love when you don’t plan anything and just go with the flow. Sometimes we have more fun this way. I believe that if we had planned something for the evening, it probably wouldn’t have turned out as fun.
