Abby's drama

This is Abby's foot.  Ouch.

She was running in wet flip flops in the back yard and slipped.  The plastic part of the flip flop sliced the bottom of her foot.  The problem was that the slice was so thin and we could see dirt that had gotten pushed up underneath.  Gregory tried to clean it out, but since the skin was  so incredibly thin, we could not get a good hold of it to pull it back and clean out the wound.  That on top of Abby screaming and thrashing around as we got anywhere near it, made it difficult. I tried to tell her that Daddy was being way more gentle than a doctor would be.  (That was the wrong thing to say.)
Reading to keep her mind off it.

We knew we needed to get it cleaned out, so we decided to take her to Urgent Care.  We were thinking they could numb it and then clean it out.  Of course she started to panic because I told her doctors wouldn't be gentle.  So I had to quickly retract what I said and make her see it was what we had to do.

Foot soak
When we got there, they soaked her foot for about 10 minutes in some kind of cleaning solution.  (For the record, I did mention soaking her foot before we left the house.)  After soaking, the doctor came in and "cleaned it out".  She did NOT numb it.  She rubbed it and literally pushed the dirt out of the would.  Oh boy we could see the pain in Abby's face.  She did scream and cry but not nearly as bad as she did at home and she never tried to pull her foot away from the doctor.

Worried about the cleaning
I was so proud of her for acting so mature.  She kept saying how much it hurt and I just reassured her that the type of injury would have hurt anyone just as much.  She did a very good job staying as calm as she could while it was being cleaned out.  As much as it looked like it hurt, anyone would have screamed or cried some.

After it was cleaned out, they put some glue on it to hold the flap of skin down while it healed.  Since it is on the middle of the bottom of her foot, it would not hold a band-aid so they had to place a piece of gauze over the laceration and then wrap the whole foot with an ace bandage.  She actually looked worse off than she really was.

The glue
She is hobbling around for a couple days because she says it hurts to put pressure on her foot.  Hopefully it will heal soon so that she can get back to walking normally.  Unfortunately she can't swim either until all of the glue has dissolved which will take about a week.
It looks worse than it is
Frozen Yogurt makes it better!

I am not sure if she learned her lesson or not.
