Disney Cruise 2012 Part 3

Part 3

(For those of you who are just first reading about our cruise, be sure to check out Part 1 & 2 first)
Monday, May 21st Bahamas

We were all so extremely excited because today was our Dolphin excursion.  We were supposed to meet at 7:45am to disembark the boat.  So we decided to order breakfast room service so we wouldn’t have to get up that much earlier.  After a late night the previous night, it was a struggle for us all to get up no matter how excited we were.

It took awhile to get through all of the logistics for getting off the boat and to our excursion but once we were off, we were loaded onto a catamaran and taken to a different island within the Bahamas for the Dolphin excursion.  Once there, we had a short safety lesson and got to head out to our dock.

OH MY GOODNEESS!  The water was ice cold but with a lot of coaxing we got into the water onto a small platform that we could stand on and the guide would bring a dolphin right up to us.  Our dolphin’s name was Abaco (Abby for short).  We each got to feed her, pet her, touch her teeth, hug her and dance with her.  It was amazing how docile and friendly she was.  Abby and Leah showed no hesitation at all, but Cameron was a bit apprehensive and did all of this while Gregory held him.  I am so thankful he at least still did it even if he needed to be in Gregory’s arms.  We would have all been so sad if he missed the opportunity.  This was such a wonderful experience that we bought the video of our dolphin interaction.  (Let us know if you want to view it.)

After we took the catamaran back to the main island, we took a little time and walked around the shops in the Bahamas.  The prices were so cheap and the people we very forward with trying to get you to buy their stuff or use their services.

Finally, we made our way back to the Disney ship.  We wanted to spend some time at the pools and thought this would be a good time since a majority of the passengers would be off the ship on the island.  We swam in the Goofy pool while watching The Little Mermaid and then we headed to the Mickey pool which was shallower and easier for Leah and Cameron to play around.  There was also a huge water slide the kids enjoyed several times.  After a couple hours, we headed back to our room to shower and get ready for pirate night.  Arrgghhhhh!

The kids got all dressed up in their pirate costumes and we headed out to the Pirate Meet and Greet before dinner.  They got their pictures taken with (and autographs from) Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Pirate Chip N Dale, Jack Sparrow and Pirate Mickey.  Then we headed to dinner.  Tonight we were eating at Lumiere’s for a second night.

After dinner, there was a Pirate in the Caribbean party on Deck 9.  At the end of the pirate party there was a firework show over the ocean.  It was so neat.  We stood up on Deck 10 and looked out over the ocean to watch the fireworks.  As soon as they were finished we enjoyed some of the 25 fancy, decadent desserts they had out.  As we were heading back to our room (because by this point all 3 kids were falling asleep literally as we walked around) Greg grabbed for a Turkey Leg which we shared that night in our room after the kids went to sleep.

Tuesday, May 22th Castaway Cay

We were heading to Disney’s private Island, Castaway Cay today thinking we'd get some serious beach time.  Unfortunately, this was our one and only day of rain and chilly weather.

We enjoyed some breakfast on one of the decks and waited for some of the rain to pass.  Finally, we decided to just go ahead and get off and hope the weather warmed and dried up.  Right after getting off, we enjoyed some shopping and they girls and I got Bahamian hair wraps.  Then we played in the sand and ocean for a couple of hours (despite the sprinkling) until lunch.  Disney served us lunch on the island and we really enjoyed the bbq.

After lunch we dropped off the kids in the secure kids’ area so Gregory and I could go on our parasailing excursion.  Wow!  I had no idea what to expect and never expected to love it as much as I did.  When Gregory told me he wanted to go parasailing, I was unsure because I didn’t really know what it was.  I purposefully did NOT look into finding out so that I would not freak myself out about it.  I am so glad.  It really is not as scary as it looks or sounds.  We could not believe how incredibly peaceful it was when you are 700 feet above the ocean!

It was now time to head back to the ship to get cleaned up for dinner.  We were to eat our last dinner at Animator’s Palate one last time.  This was a sad dinner for us since it would be our last.

After dinner, we dropped the kids off in the kids’ club area so Gregory and I could go back to our room and pack up.  We needed to have our luggage outside of our room by 10:30pm so that it could be taken off the ship in the morning.  When we finished packing up, we picked the kids up so we could attend the “Till we meet again!” party where all the characters would be gathered one last time.  As soon as we got there and picked out our perfect spot to have a view of everything, Leah started feeling sick.  As I was taking her to the bathroom, she vomited all over the hallway.  I rushed her back to our room to get her cleaned up and Gregory waited for someone to come clean up our “mess”.

Well we made it 2 full days without any puking!

We got the kids to bed but we still had some souvenir shopping to do.  Luckily the shops were open until midnight.  Gregory and I each took turns heading up to the shops to pick up a few last minute items.

Wednesday, May 23rd   Disembarkation day

We were scheduled to eat breakfast at 6:45am at Animator’s Palate before we were to disembark.  Before breakfast, I managed to sneak in some last bit of shopping at Shutters where we were able to purchase all of the photographer’s pictures they had taken of us the entire trip.  We had 2 free package coupons for booking 2 rooms through AAA.  This was an amazing deal and I managed to get about 15 prints for free.

We enjoyed our breakfast one last time with our Michigan friends.  There were a lot of tears among us.  (Abby cried for about the next 2 hours.)  Lean continued to feel sick during breakfast so Gregory and I took shifts sitting outside the restaurant with her while the other one ate.

After breakfast we immediately got off the ship.  We had to go through customs since we technically left the country when we went to the Bahamas.  After customs, which was no problem, we loaded on a shuttle and headed to Hertz to pick up our rental car for the day.
