Wall to wall kids

So I just dropped Abby off at Kindergarten Academy. We had to park at the middle school and walk to the elementary school in the torrential rain. We were both soaking wet when we got to the doors. As we walked in the front doors, there was a big clap of thunder. EVERYONE screamed and then the power went out. It came back on in the main part of the school, but not the gym and cafeteria where we were suppose to line up. We walked into the cafeteria in the pitch dark but were able to find her post. Then a teacher's aide came in and took us to the classroom. It wasn't 8:00am yet, but since the power was out, I guess they wanted to get people out of there. We walked down the "long" hallway to her classroom. Her teacher was there to greet us and told Abby to find her seat. First she wanted to put her jacket on because she was wet and cold. She then sat down and started coloring a letter "a" picture and said, "Bye" with no problems.

As I was walking down the hall to leave, it was wall to wall kids. There was so much chaos and lots and lots of children. I honestly felt like I was dropping my shy, scared daughter off in the middle of the zoo on a day they were having 75 field trips visit. I just left her there. At least she was in the safety of her classroom/cage with her teacher.

I honestly felt like I was going to throw up the whole way there this morning. I kept a stiff upper lip though and said only positive and encouraging things as Abby expressed to me in the car that she thought she would be shy today and she was a little bit scared.

This may seem a little dark to some, but you have to remember, I am a child of the catholic schools were there was only 15 kids per grade level and then we all went to high school together. The public school system is so vast and a little scary to me.

Can't wait to pick her up at 3pm. (I'll be early, of course)
