Stories from Kindergarten

STORY #1

In kindergarten, the kids are all paired up with a fourth grader. It sounds like some kind of mentoring thing. Abby got to meet with her fourth grader today, Meghan. She came home talking about Meghan and told us that Meghan's parents got into a fight with someone. They have to go to "Jury". If they don't win, then they will go to jail and Meghan will have to go into an orphanage. Abby said that Meghan told her that after 5 years in the orphanage, they "kill" her. Abby swears this is true no matter how much we tried to convince her that Meghan (or Abby) must have the story confused and no one would kill a child after being in an orphanage for 5 years. She got very defensive and said to us, "Just don't talk to me about it anymore!"

I am not sure I like this mentoring program.

STORY #2

Yesterday, Abby told us that Haden called her "Sweet Cheeks". I asked her if that made her happy or upset her. She said she liked it and she called him "Pretty Eyes". Greg asked her why she called him that and she said, "Because he has huge blue eyes". Then today when she got into the car she said that he never called her "sweet cheeks" today. I said, "Maybe he forgot." Abby replied, "I went up to him and said, 'don't you want to call me sweet cheeks?'" That's where it ended.

Then at dinner she told us that Haden no longer sits at her table. We asked if he got moved because of her and she said, "NO, he was talking to the whole class." Then so sweetly and quietly she said, "When he sings softly, it makes me cry."

Abby has her first crush!!!!! Never thought it would happen in kindergarten.
