Godparents

Saturday night we "invited" our family down to Festus to my brother's house. We went with a purpose of asking an important favor. Greg even made an ice cream cake to share. (He's AWESOME that way) When we got there, my sister-in-law, Donna had got called in to work (she's a nurse) and they didn't know what time she'd be home. So Greg and I waited and had a great visit with my brother and niece while the little kids played. We watched a great Hockey game and waited as long as we could to for Donna to get home. Around 8:30pm we decided to bring out the cake. All the kids were getting hungry (and the adults). It was hard to wait for Donna, but we knew we wanted her there too when we asked our favor. She called while we were eating and said she was on her way home.

When she finally made it home around 8:45pm we gave her the chance to make herself a bowl of ice cream. Then we called Shelby (my niece and god-daughter) to return to the kitchen. It was hard to get her eyes off the TV. They were glued to watching her fav Blue's player, Cam Janssen. When she came out to the kitchen, I asked Scott and Shelby if they would do us the favor of being Cameron's Godparents. They graciously accepted and I think Shelby was shocked that we asked her.

According to the church, Shelby cannot be an "Official" Godparent on paper since she won't be confirmed until next year. However, the Church only requires you to have one Godparent. Therefore, Scott will be the Godparent on paper and Shelby will be a witness. However, in our eyes, she is the official Godmother. She is great with all our children and I know she will take this seriously.

Earlier in the evening, Shelby said she was saving her money to by a personalized Blue's jersey and she wanted it to say, "Shelby & Cam" for her favorite player. After we asked her to be Godmother, I told her that after she gets her jersey and when Cam Janssen leaves the blues then she could just tell people that the "Cam" is for her Godson. She said, "Yeah, that's Awesome!"

We are proud to have them be a part of our child's life. Just as we are proud to have all the godparents in our children's lives and our Godparents, too!
