Kindergarten Registration

Well today we went and registered our "baby" for Kindergarten. She was soooo excited! She wanted to see everything, the Kindergarten rooms, the library, the gym and even all the upper grade class rooms. She wanted to know which playground was her's and if all the grades played together outside for recess.

While we were talking with one of the Kindergarten teachers, Abby just quietly checked out the room. She pointed out things that she had at her preschool. She pointed out the cubbies, which she had this year but hers didn't have a hook to hang stuff. The teacher told her that was to teach her responsiblilty and she would be a big kid now.

It is hard to believe that she will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. She told me today that she would only be home then on Saturdays and Sundays. She said she would miss me. My heart broke a little. Yeah, I have my crazy days where I need a break from the kids, but in no way am I ready to give her up all day, everyday.

We can hardly believe she will be going full days. Both Greg and I only went to half day Kindergarten. Is she ready for full days? She has stayed at preschool several times all day and she seems to manage, but she is a lot more tired in the evenings then. When we were talking about it in the car on the way home tonight, she asked if she would have to stay for lunch. Right now it is an option at her school to stay for lunch and stay till the end of the day. She hasn't yet grasped the concept that she will be going full day's regardless.

Greg will tell you I find the most minor things to stress out about. If there isn't anything to worry about, I will find something to turn into a problem. I am worried about the whole lunch program. She has the option to buy lunch or bring her own. I can't decide what to let her do. For Greg, he said he bought lunches every day up until Junior high, for me it was a privilege to buy my lunch. With Abby, she is such a picky and finicky eater. So we could go both ways. We could have her buy lunch and get her exposed to more foods and eating whatever is provided (and risk her going hungry) or we could have her take her lunch. But if she takes her lunch, that just gives me more to stress out about making sure it is packed every night and we have food around. What to do? What to do?

She will be attending Kindergarten Academy during the month of June. It is like summer school only without all the academics. It is a way to get kids acclimated with the school setting, schedules and activities. I explained it to Abby as kind of "practice kindergarten" and she'll get to meet some of the kids she'll be going to school with in August. That too is from 8am to 3pm. Aahh! I guess I'll have to get used to her going full days a lot sooner than I thought.

So that gives me two and half months to avoid the idea that our little girl is growing up.
